All Star Schedule

As promised, here is the revised schedule for all 4 of our all star teams for this Saturday July 3rd.
The 11 and 12 year old girls softball will play Watauga National in Boone at 1:00 in first round action.
The 11 and 12 year old boys baseball will play Wilkes American at Memorial Park in Wilkesboro Saturday at 3:30.
The 9 and 10 girls softball will play Wilkes American at home at the Hodge Turbyfill complex at 1:00 Saturday.
The 9 and 10 year old boys baseball will play either Ashe County or Lenoir at home at the Hodge Turbyfill complex at 1:00 Saturday.

As you see, we are hosting both the softball and baseball 9 and 10 year old games this Saturday. There will also be other counties in action at 3:30 at our fields. Please come out and support our league and our teams.

On Monday, the 9 and 10 boys faced a tough opponent in Wilkes National. The outcome wasn't in our favor with Wilkes coming away with a 14 to 1 victory. A few errors and some very well placed hits put Avery behind early. The boys played hard, and learned a few lessons along the way that will help them in their next game on Saturday.

Everyone come out to the fields in Newland to support the teams or travel to Boone or Wilkesboro to give our kids the backing they need in these away games.

World Series Tournament has started!!

The regular season has ended and a new season has begun. All Star, or the World Series tournament is in full swing. We have 4 teams in action currently, the names of those participating will be posted soon.
The 9 and 10 year old girls softball kicked off the action by going up against the team from Ashe County on Saturday June 26. This game was played in Morganton in the heat and humidity. After a tough battle the Ashe County team prevailed by a score of 20 to 5.
The girls will next see action on Saturday July 3, and they anticipate a better outcome for the team. All the girls gave great effort in the game while struggling with the heat and their opponent. Thanks to Robert Garland for coaching this team and providing great leadership for the team.
This Monday the 28th, our league will be hosting a pair of contests in the 9 and 10 boys baseball division. At 5:00, Watauga National will square off against Ashe County. Then at 7:30, our Avery team will take the field against a tough team, the Wilkes National team out of Wilkesboro. Please come out and support our kids and provide an exciting atmosphere for them to play in. Lets have the biggest crowd our complex has seen in support of our kids.
All 4 teams will be in action somewhere on Saturday the 3rd of July. Locations and times will be announced this week as the information is passed along to us.

The concession stand will be selling burgers, hot dogs and other items.
We are having this Fun Night to attempt to raise funds to purchase new uniforms for our All Star teams.

Pitch Count reminders

There has been some confusion on the pitch counts for the 2010 season. This season's rule book was not out yet when a portion of our coaches manual was printed. The pitch totals that relate to days rest have changed somewhat since last year. Here are the 2010 Little League pitch count rules.

11 to 12 year olds - max of 85 per day
9 to 10 year olds - max of 75 per day
7 to 8 year olds - max of 50 per day

66 or more in a day - 4 calendar days rest required
51 to 65 pitches - 3 calendar days rest required
36 to 50 pitches - 2 calendar days rest required
21 to 35 pitches - 1 calendar day of rest required
20 or less pitches - no rest day required

Example: if a pitcher throws 52 pitches on a Monday, he must then rest Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The pitcher would be able to pitch again on Friday.

We hope this clears up any problems that may have arisen.

Hits keep coming

Once again, congratulations to some of our talented players in the Major League division. Gabe Stanley hit his first home run in last nights game against the Yankees and pitched a great game also. Nick Wotell of the Yankees hit his second home run of the season to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th inning. Keep up the great play guys.

Schedule Change, honors, and announcements

Friday nights Minor League games will be moved to Saturday due to conflicts with school activities.
Red Sox vs. White Sox at 11:00 am
Phillies vs. Royals at 1:00 pm

Congratulations to 2 of our Major League players, Dale Russ and Nick Wotell. Dale hit his second home run of the season Monday the 10th, and Nick hit his first in last weeks action. Keep up the good hitting guys.

Parks and Rec. will be conducting the annual Pitch, Hit and Run competition next Saturday the 22nd at 11:00 am. Last year we had several of our kids go to regional competition in Albemarle NC. Lets see how many we can get there this season. More details will follow in the next few days.

Schedules posted

We are sorry for the confusion, but if you click on the sidebar where it says "2010 Schedules" the correct schedules for the year are posted. Once on that website, click on league schedules and you can choose from each division in our Little League. You can even pick out your individual team's own schedule. We will attempt to post scores and standings from the Major Leagues here also.
Opening day was a great success, from the opening National Anthem, the great number of players and teams that made it out, the flag presentation of the United States Flag flown in Afghanistan, to being able to surprise Mr. Jim Greene with the first pitch honor. Everything went great.
We will have a picture schedule posted in a day or two.
Once again, to find out about cancellations or changes, please call 733-3591. All changes of games will be made before 5:00 on game days.
